Around 19, there was the appearance of practising the Buddhism of Nichiren Daishonin, within the lineage of the Middle Way teachings of T’ien t’ai and Nāgārjuna. Central to Nichiren’s sharing, and aligned with the Buddha’s insight, was the recognition that everything is neither something nor nothing, but both, apparently two yet not two, and that this is causelessly the case. This sharing can be understood as a radical expression of non duality for its time, one that points beyond attainment, self improvement, or gradual realisation. This was initially recognised here in meeting Nichiren’s sharing, though over time the formal structures of Nichiren Buddhism no longer appeared necessary and gradually fell away, leaving simply the recognition, without a way to describe it. As this settled, what remained was a quiet, unremarkable recognition of being no-thing, the name given here to what is as neither something nor nothing, but both, without any need for reinforcement or maintenance.

Against this background, a working life appeared across teaching, IT within investment banking, social enterprise, voice coaching, and human needs based therapeutic work. This included collaboration with figures such as Dame Anita Roddick and Dr Hazel Henderson. Alongside this, there was sustained engagement with trauma, PTSD, neurodiversity, and the psychology of human needs through psychotherapeutic work with the British Army and police. This was informed by neuroscientific understanding and by sufistic principles of the Human Givens approach.

In my 50s, there was a sudden falling away of separation, in which it became unmistakably apparent that the separate self had never been anything other than an illusion, and that what appears as the universe is simply no-thing appearing. This was seen to be exactly as Buddhism had always described, and at the same time was appearing as what has more recently been labelled radical or pathless non duality. It was also clear that no method, practice, or seeking could ever bring about such seeing. This recognition did not arise through effort or achievement, but as one of the countless, causeless movements of what is.

The message of non duality now appears as a message of and from love in monthly Naturally Being dialogue meetings, which are open to all and welcome questions. Regular writings exploring this message also appear through the Substack Naturally Being Nondual https://freyjatheaker.substack.com/ and in the book The Quiet Confidence of Not Being Someone.

This message does not speak to the illusion of separation by giving it something to do, nor does it attempt to improve, fix, or transcend experience. At the same time, it does not dismiss lived experience. Rather, it acknowledges and clarifies the apparent sense of separation as experience, as simply another appearance of no-thing no-thinging, already whole as it is.

Alongside this, and on the relative level of practical life, educational gatherings are held for those working in areas such as mental wellbeing and finance. These draw on professional experience and an understanding of human needs, while remaining aligned with the simplicity of this message. Further details can be found through this website.
